What we help with
Families in Lakeland often have growing children and aging parents at the same time. These are the areas we help with.
Retirement income
Turning savings into a steady paycheck, Social Security timing and the order you draw from each account.
Taxes in retirement
Required minimum distributions, Roth conversions and keeping more of what you have saved.
Wills, trusts and legacy
Wills, living trusts, powers of attorney and beneficiary designations.
Wealth management, insurance and long-term care
Investment advisory services through our affiliated advisor, life insurance, and a plan for care before you need it.
Why a Certified Financial Fiduciary
A fiduciary is obligated to put your interests first. For families planning for two generations at once, that clarity matters.
R. Renee' Kennedy has held the Certified Financial Fiduciary (CFF) designation since 2020, issued by the National Association of Certified Financial Fiduciaries. See what it means and how to verify it.

Planning in Tennessee
A few Tennessee rules to know as you plan.
No state tax on wages, and no inheritance tax.
Tennessee does not tax wages, its Hall tax on interest and dividends ended in 2021, and the state inheritance tax was repealed in 2016. Federal taxes still apply, so planning still matters.
Probate happens in Shelby County.
If a will goes through probate here, it goes through the Shelby County Probate Court. Assets held in a living trust generally pass outside of probate.
Common questions from Lakeland families
I am still working. Is it too early to plan?
No. The five to ten years before retirement are often when planning helps most, because there is still time to make choices about saving, taxes and Social Security.
Do we need a will or a trust?
A will says who receives what, but it generally goes through probate. A living trust can help your family avoid probate and keep things private. Many families use both.
What should we have in place for an aging parent?
A durable power of attorney, a health care directive, a HIPAA release and one list of their accounts and contacts that the family can find quickly.
