What we help with
Cordova families often come to us at a turning point: a job change, a retirement date on the calendar, or a parent who needs more help. These are the areas we cover.
Retirement income
Turning savings into a steady paycheck, Social Security timing and the order you draw from each account.
Taxes in retirement
Required minimum distributions, Roth conversions and keeping more of what you have saved.
Wills, trusts and legacy
Wills, living trusts, powers of attorney and beneficiary designations.
Wealth management, insurance and long-term care
Investment advisory services through our affiliated advisor, life insurance, and a plan for care before you need it.
Why a Certified Financial Fiduciary
A fiduciary has to put your interests ahead of their own. When you are deciding what to do with a 401(k) you spent a career building, that standard matters.
R. Renee' Kennedy has held the Certified Financial Fiduciary (CFF) designation since 2020, issued by the National Association of Certified Financial Fiduciaries. See what it means and how to verify it.

Planning in Tennessee
A few Tennessee rules are worth knowing before you plan.
No state tax on wages, and no inheritance tax.
Tennessee does not tax wages, its Hall tax on interest and dividends ended in 2021, and the state inheritance tax was repealed in 2016. Federal taxes still apply, so planning still matters.
Probate happens in Shelby County.
If a will goes through probate here, it goes through the Shelby County Probate Court. Assets held in a living trust generally pass outside of probate.
Common questions from Cordova families
I am leaving my job. What should I do with my 401(k)?
You usually have a few choices: leave it, roll it to an IRA or a new employer plan, or cash it out, which is taxed. The right choice depends on your income, taxes and plans, so it is worth a conversation first.
When should I start Social Security?
You can start as early as 62, but the check is permanently smaller. Waiting can increase it, but it is not right for everyone. Your health, savings and spouse all matter.
Do you help with a parent's planning?
Yes. Many families start with a parent's will, power of attorney and health care directive.
